Kapadokya

I was a lazy writer in 2009, too busy travelling I guess. Unlike the other places in Turkey I don’t have my old journal to go back to and steal from.

Kapadokya is a region well know for rock formations known as “Fairy Chimneys”. These are large pillars of rock with a mushroom like look to them. The town of Goreme where we stayed is carved right into the chimneys. We chose it to be able to sleep in the chimneys and to be close to the hiking trails.

In Kapadokya you can hike the Rosa Valley, names for the colour of the chimneys in the area. You can see many old houses and churches along all of the hiking trails. I recommend a few days in Kapadokya to hike the different trails and to explore all the little nooks and crannies.

It was here in Goreme that Adam and I parted ways. He was headed to Istanbul and I was headed to Fethiye. I spent a few days in the coastal city of Fethiye before busing up to Izmir and flying to Amsterdam.
