The Nakasendo, or central mountain road, was one of the roads that connected Kyoto to Tokyo in the past. In the present many sections of the road have been developed around. The Nakasendo can be used to travel from town by following modern sign posts. Some area’s including a few near Tajimi are still paths that run through fields and forests.

We took a day hike along the Nakasendo through the forest. At the start and finish there are little towns with all the modern trappings. This was a nice peaceful hike through the forest and a great way to see the countryside of Japan.
